Multifocal lenses are an exciting advance in cataract surgery. For certain patients they will allow you to see clearly at both distance and near. There are many different multifocal lenses on the market and your doctor will discuss with you which one is best in your situation.

Monovision is another option for giving you both distance and reading vision. It is a common way that vision is corrected with contact lenses or even LASIK surgery for patients over the age of 40. Monovision is accomplished by setting one eye for distance vision and the other eye for reading vision. Yes, this sounds strange but the human brain is very powerful and makes it seem like you are using both eyes for all activities.
