Cataracts are a clouding or opacity of the natural lens that is inside the eye. The lens sits directly behind the pupil and helps to focus the light entering the eye.
Most often cataracts start small and progress slowly but as they advance they can cause a decrease of vision and eventually blindness. Luckily there are very good treatment options for cataracts.
It is estimated that more than half of people age 60 and over have cataracts. Cataracts can form at any age but are much more common as you age naturally. In fact, almost everyone will have some sort of cataract formation during their life.
